The US is the world’s largest borrower and has massive structural budget and trade deficits. It used to export dollars in the form of the sale of treasury “assets” in USD. Foreigners, mostly trade partners like China and Saudi Arabia used to happily buy the bonds to keep their customer happy and money flows rolling. Not anymore. The Fed must buy the debt to avoid a massive spike in yield that the budget cannot afford as “normalized” yields would absorb 30% of the budget. Bottom line= buy real assets and buy gold/silver
