5G report by Ericsson is out

A report from Ericsson finds about 1B people will be in 5G coverage areas by the end of the year, per CNET -- that's faster than expected. Big picture, following MS AlphaWise survey the other week that pointed to 5G as the primary driver of iPhone upgrades this year, Ericsson published a bullish 5G report estimating that by year end over 1 billion people will be in 5G coverage areas and 218M people will have 5G subscriptions worldwide, up from prior expectations of 190M. Ericsson also estimates that by 2026 ~60% of the global population, or 3.5 billion people, will have a 5G subscription, making the 5G rollout the fastest ever and faster than both 3G and 4G. "Instead of slowing down 5G, the pandemic in some ways made it easier for carriers to expand their networks faster. In China, the government made 5G's rollout a priority, and Apple's entry into the 5G market with its iPhone 12 lineup is expected to boost the number of 5G phone users.
